Due to COVID-19, a second in-person meeting was postponed from 2021 to 2022. Instead 8 digital conversations were held in October 2021, during which central topics for the Global Summit of Research Museums in 2022 were outlined in thematic sessions over two days.

The goal of the digital Global Summit of Research Museums in 2021 was to initiate and sustain high-level exchange among you, research museum leaders worldwide, to offer opportunities to talk about some of the most pressing concerns facing your global institutions and to provide sustained momentum leading up to next the in-person Global Summit of Research Museums in Munich in 2022.
