Leibniz Research Museums: Aktionsplan II: A World in Motion

A World in Motion was the theme of our collaborative activities in the Aktionsplan Leibniz Research Museums from 2020 till 2022. We deepened our understanding of mobility / migration / movement together with you.

The Leibniz Research Museums are guided by the understanding that access to knowledge and factual information is the basis for critical thinking and is therefore fundamental to our society. The goal of A World in Motion was to promote conversation and discussion about the major global challenges of our time.

Climate change, loss of biodiversity, and social change concern – and polarize – people all over the world. The drastic restrictions on freedom of movement caused by the Corona pandemic starting in 2020 stand in stark contrast to continuous human migration flows on every continent. All of this makes it obvious how important movement is for us as humans. Yes, we are in motion, the world is in motion, but movement is ambivalent: hopeful and alluring, threatening and destructive.
- What triggers movement, migration, and mobility, and what are the interactions of nature and culture?
- What is the connection between migratory movements and crises on the one hand, and between migratory movements and innovations on the other?
- How does "foreign" become "native" and why? What is kept, what is discarded and how?
- What knowledge do objects transport and how does their value change in the course of their movement, migration and mobility?
- How do movement, migration and mobility influence the development and dynamics of nature, of human social and economic systems as well as of technology, art and ideas?
- What can we learn from natural and human history for the current transformation dynamics on our planet?

Aktionsplan II Leibniz Research Museums was funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the federal states in which the research museums are located, in accordance with a resolution of the Bundestag.
